Homemade Finger Paints

We made some finger paints.  Yep, we did it, and don't let it make you feel like less of a mom if you use store-bought paints.  I really just didn't feel like spending the money on them, and was way too lazy to go out to the store on the day that my toddler went stir crazy and needed a new outlet.  I do like the simple ingredients in the paints as well, as opposed to the store-bought ones.

We have purchased some finger paints since the day that I made these, because our paints grew mold in them while sitting on the counter for a few days, so be sure to keep the paints in the fridge if you don't want your littles to paint with penicillin.

Finger Paint Recipe:

3 tbs sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 C cornstarch
2 C water
food coloring of choice

-Mix all of the ingredients, except for the food coloring, together in a small saucepan, and heat on medium heat until the mixture thickens.
-Allow it to cool, then pour into containers.  Baby food jars come in handy for this!
-Add food coloring.  There are probably some natural colors you can use as well.  We just used some expired, basic food coloring.

My little guy loved the paints.  I painted with them, too, and have to admit it was fun to get messy!  Take a peek at our homemade playdough recipe if you have an antsy little one who needs a fun activity.

Thanks for stopping by :)
